Distribution services provided to medical literature publishing house

The Logistics partner of a leading publisher of medical literature, recently appointed Route4 Logistics team to deliver medical journals to hospitals and doctors surgeries across the UK.

The medical journal is a practical, evidence-based information guide for healthcare professionals in the UK and around the world, who prescribe, dispense, and administer medicines. It is issued twice a year in March and September and details all medicines that are generally prescribed in the UK. It includes information on dosage amount, side of effects of drugs and health risks of taking certain medications.

The delivery schedule was very intense as there was very limited time available to deliver the journals. The Route4  team was given the brief to deliver over 500 pallets of medical journals, to 323 delivery destinations within a period of 28 days.

Due to this short turnaround, Route4 utilised 8 long wheel based 3.5 tonne vans to deliver over 130 tonnes of stock to destinations ranging from Redruth in Cornwall up to the far North East of England.

Owen-1-1
Commenting on the project, Owen Harris said “This assignment was particularly challenging due to the fact that we were limited from the outset as to when we could pick up and deliver the medical journals. This level of planning required an in-depth knowledge of the best transport routes to use and any localised delivery restrictions that would inhibit our ability to deliver at certain times of the day.”

On behalf of the medical publisher, a spokesman said “I can’t thank Route4 enough for their efforts and commitment on this delivery assignment. This was by no means an easy task but they demonstrated superb logistical knowledge and a commitment to working around the clock to ensure our medical journals were delivered to so many destinations in so little time.”
